A Free Google TV & Android TV Remote App for iPhone

TV Remote is coming soon for iPhone. Email us for a launch notification. This guide previews how to use the app when it is available.

Google TV and Android TV run on far more TVs than most people realise. Sony, TCL, Hisense, Philips and others use them, and so do the Nvidia Shield and Chromecast with Google TV.

They all speak the same remote protocol, so TV Remote works with all of them. You pair once by typing the code shown on the TV.

What works on Google TV and Android TV

This is one of the best-supported platforms in the app:

  • D-pad, OK, Back, Home, volume, mute, channels and playback keys
  • Typing from your iPhone keyboard into the TV’s text boxes
  • Voice search sent straight to the TV’s search
  • Popular apps such as Netflix, YouTube and Prime Video, opened with a tap
  • A Bluetooth button that opens the TV’s accessory pairing screen directly, for headphones and controllers
  • What’s currently playing, shown at the top of the remote

The pairing code

The first time you connect, the TV shows a 6-character code. Type it into the app and the two are paired for good. If the code is rejected, check you’re typing it from the TV you selected, since codes are per TV.
